Treatments for PAD

Peripheral arterial disease, P.A.D., is a condition in which your arteries become clogged due to a buildup of extra cholesterol and fat. Normally seen in the lower limbs, P.A.D. can be seen anywhere in the body. This is a common disease, however just like clogged arteries in the heart can cause a heart attack or stroke, clogged arteries in legs can do the same.

The talented staff at Heart Vascular and Leg , located in Bakersfield, is highly trained to treat P.A.D. quickly and conveniently. Every patient is different and after a screening and diagnosis, our doctors will develop your personal treatment plan. Most patients will benefit from a combination of the following approaches.

Lifestyle Changes

A healthy lifestyle has many benefits, including treating symptoms of P.A.D. Eating right and exercising regularly will help reduce high cholesterol and glucose levels. Exercise will also increase your blood flow. If you are diagnosis with P.A.D. the most important step is quitting smoking.

Medications

Our doctors may prescribe you one or more medications that can help prevent the formation of blood clots and reduce leg pain.

Interventional Treatments

Our office offers minimally invasive procedures to treat P.A.D. Our experienced staff is trained to offer laser atherectomy. This procedure restores blood flow through narrow and blocked arteries. We also offer Angioplasty that opens blocked arteries through the use of a balloon catheter. Stenting is another treatment that opens up blood channels by using a metal mesh tube.

The team at Vascular and Leg Center wants to help reduce your painful symptoms, increase your mobility, prevent heart attacks, strokes and limb loss and most importantly, increase your quality of life. There are many risk factors associated with P.A.D. If you find yourself at risk, it is important to treat this condition quickly to prevent future medical concerns. Contact our office today for a full diagnosis so we can help you return to a pain-free, healthy life.
